Come and discover this green space in Annemasse. This site, located on the edge of town above the Casino, covers an area of over 5 hectares, mostly on embankments, and includes a flower meadow, orchards, a wood and a wetland.
The Vernand hillsides are made up of south-facing slopes overlooking the Arve River. This area is particularly rich in plant and animal biodiversity. It is home to the yellow-bellied toad (a European protected species), as well as over 200 plant species.
After acquiring the site, the Ville d'Annemasse undertook development work on the slopes in 2013, with the aim of enhancing the richness of this area and making it accessible to all, while preserving its natural appearance. The Vernand hillsides were classified ENS (Espace Naturel Sensible) by the Departmental Council in 2014.
Just a stone's throw away, discover the Jardin des Iris, or join the pedestrian walk along the banks of the Arve, via the Chemin des îles.
By public transport
Bus: Take Line 8 and get off at the "Valeury Lycée Professionnel" stop. You'll then need to walk about 10 minutes to reach the first paths on the hillsides.
Line 4, get off at Pont d'Etrembières, cross the Arve: there's access to the park on the other side of the bridge.
On foot or by bike
It's a challenging climb! For walkers, access is often via the Perrier district or from the sports area. For cyclists (mountain bikes recommended), the paths quickly climb up to the wooded areas.
By car
Access: Follow signs for Cranves-Sales or Lycée des Glières.
Parking: The Maison des Sports parking lot or the parking lots at the Glières complex are the easiest starting points. It is not advisable to park directly on the narrow hillside paths.
