Chartreuse de Pomier, Allée des Chartreux, Pomier, 74160 Présilly

Description

The old barns and the Château de la Chartreuse de Pomier will be open to visitors all day!
This magnificent site, designated as a “remarkable heritage site,” and its buildings were created by the Carthusians, a contemplative monastic order founded by Saint Bruno. The entire Pomier Charterhouse dates back to 1170. At that time, and for 600 years, the charterhouse exerted a profound influence throughout the region. Following the French Revolution, part of the site (the church, the chapels, the 12 monks’ cells, the small cloister, and the large cloister) was destroyed. The château (where the monks received their guests of honor—while they themselves lived in the strictest simplicity and silence) and the monks’ former barns have been renovated over the years and are now exceptionally open to the public on this Heritage Day. Come discover this exceptional site at the foot of the Salève: remarkable buildings and a stunning forest.
