Film Screening and Q&A: Eva Barto Free All ages Ciné Actuel (MJC Annemasse - Centre) The Making of the Lure (2026), 57 min. Screening in partnership with Ciné Actuel. “Here we follow the production of a film about debt, a ‘Broadway-style’ political satire whose protagonist is Pinocchio—a character deep in debt, crowned king of debt, and willing to do anything to stay in power. Wearing a Lehman Brothers cap, video artist Eva Barto, accompanied by her accomplices, calls microcredit banks, devises plans to find sponsors, and sets up hidden cameras to expose the pawnshop-style lending practices that go by other names. Behind the veil of our financial systems lies a whole world of scams and legal loopholes—the kind that create bubbles ready to burst—which undermine language and constrain the lives of those who do not make the rules of the game. As the search for funding for the film-within-a-film unfolds, *The Making of the Lure* exposes the grand fiction upon which our economic system is based—that of an emancipatory lending system—or how money can vanish and reappear from the hands of the wealthy, before the astonished eyes of those who have nothing, just like in the illusions of a magician, paid to entertain us. The invention of a guerrilla-style cinema with a political-economic slant, which attacks the cynicism of capital through irony. ” (Mourad-Anis Moussa – Visions du Réel) French artist Eva Barto (born in 1987) has been invited for a short-term research residency at the Villa du Parc, marking the beginning of an investigation in the city of Annemasse or a collaboration with the art center on issues of hospitality and radicalism in art; the possibilities are open-ended.
