Take a behind-the-scenes look at modern art restoration and a unique exhibition of portraits by Georges Gimel. This self-guided tour allows you to examine the works and their reverse sides through the expert eye of a curator and restorer.
For this year’s European Heritage Days, the workshop is opening its doors for an immersive experience into the world of modern and contemporary art conservation.
The event takes place in two parts, within the same specially designed space:
1. A tour of the restoration studio: discover the scientific tools, works currently undergoing treatment, and more.
2. The exclusive exhibition “Portraits of the Roaring Twenties”: A series of paintings by Georges Gimel (1898–1962), on loan from the Gimel Committee. The exhibition design was specifically conceived to allow visitors to see the works through the eyes of a conservator.
Zoé Sallin, a certified conservator-restorer, will be on hand throughout the tour to discuss her approach, her analyses, and how she “reads” a work of art in order to save it. This is a unique opportunity to see how science and art history come together to preserve our heritage for the future.
