Description
This park is entirely designed around the theme of maple trees (over 50 varieties). With its giant chessboard, ping-pong table and children's playground, it offers an original moment of relaxation.
Eugène Maître is from Lyon. After setting up a plant in the Arve Valley in 1913, he chose to establish a factory in Annemasse in 1919, on the Chemin des Tournelles. He built it in the railway station district, which was then the city's second industrial zone. Situated close to the railroads, PLM (Paris Lyon Méditerranée) and Chemin de Fer Economiques du Nord, the factory was originally called "La précision décolletage" and produced screws and bolts for industry, special parts for the automotive, aviation, marine, wireless, textile, optical, typewriter, injection pump and arms manufacturing markets. Daily production in 1937 was 300,000 parts, machined on 150 automatic lathes. The company also carries out machining inspections.
Before the war, there were periods of low employment. Around 200 redundancies were recorded in 1938, 70% of them in Annemasse. But Maître remained a major employer in the town. On September 1, 1939, the Annemasse employment office registered 476 job applications for the Maître factories, including 192 men and 284 women.
