Gendarmerie General Denis Favier devoted much of his life to serving this republican institution, which he later went on to lead.
Gendarmerie General Denis Favier devoted much of his life to serving this republican institution, which he later led.
A former charismatic commander of the GIGN, he distinguished himself in 1994 by leading the assault against four terrorists who had taken the passengers of an Airbus hostage in Algiers. The operation, carried out at Marignane Airport, resulted in the release of all the passengers and the neutralization of the attackers.
In the summer of 2000, after two assignments at headquarters and having been promoted to lieutenant colonel, he assumed command of the Haute-Savoie departmental gendarmerie group, a position he held until July 2003. In 2015, he also played a decisive role in organizing the manhunt for the perpetrators of the Charlie Hebdo attacks.
We are particularly honored to welcome, as part of the “Sharing Knowledge” series, General Denis Favier, a living example of heroism and dignity, unanimously admired for his courage, his sense of duty, and his human qualities.
The cultural season is supported by the Haute-Savoie Departmental Council and Ici Pays de Savoie.
