“You’ll feel right at home here”
Sandra, Stéphane and Valérie are from Haute-Savoie and are very much attached to their region. They grew up together and then their professional lives took them on separate paths. Sandra, the ‘little sister’, studied in Lyon for a BTS diploma in tourism and then got her first job at Saint-Exupéry airport. Stéphane chose a career in the restaurant business, and then changed paths to clockmaking. The eldest of the three, Valérie, pursued a career in culture, in theatre and concert management in Geneva.
They each went about their busy lives separately but deep down, all dreamt of going into the hospitality industry just like their parents. In 2020, this desire for a more meaningful career took a new turn when the town hall of Andilly announced they wanted to create a hotel-restaurant in Charly. Valérie lived in this charming village and so she seized the opportunity, bringing Stéphane and Sandra along with her in this joint project.
This exciting family adventure began with the renovation of an ancient atypical farmhouse that had great potential to become the “Auberge de Charly et ses Filles”. The building was renovated in keeping with the style of the village surroundings, giving the impression it had always been there. This welcoming and inviting place is connected to the history of Charly. The siblings took inspiration from the past by giving each of the hotel rooms the name of a woman who had either left her mark on their lives or on the village: Claudia, Angeline, Zaza, Lucienne, Edmée, Tante Emma and Emilienne. In tribute to the past, there is a photo of the former owner in the entrance hallway, along with childhood memories and funny anecdotes from the locals. That’s what the Auberge de Charly et ses Filles is all about. Sandra, Stéphane and Valérie have created a unique place where lifelong local residents, new generations and visitors to the region can (re)discover Charly.
Today, everyone has a specific role to play. Sandra deals with the administrative side of things and works in the kitchen alongside the chef, while Stéphane is in charge of the restaurant and Valérie, the hotel. From preparing breakfast to the service and housekeeping, the siblings work well together, taking care of all the necessary duties so that the business runs smoothly. Sandra, Stéphane and Valérie strive to keep this authenticity that connects them to Charly, with one shared goal in mind: continue telling a story in this welcoming home.
