Chermont chapel, located on a hill opposite the lake, was built in 1880 thanks to the generosity and devotion of parishioners. Today, it shines out like a beacon on the mountain in testament to an earlier age of religious fervour.
The building, blessed on August 8, 1880 by the Bishop of Geneva and renovated in 1978, is a fine example of neo-Gothic architecture. The façade offers a symbolic interpretation of the Blessed Virgin, to whom the chapel is dedicated. At the top is the triquetra, a three-cornered rose window that refers to the Christian Trinity (Father, Son and Holy Spirit). Just below is a moulding with 4 starfish or Stella Maris. This symbol has been associated with the Virgin Mary's role as guide since medieval times. At the center of this design are two hearts side by side, the first representing the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the second the Immaculate Heart of the Virgin Mary. Above the door, the tympanum reads "I am the Immaculate Conception", the phrase with which the Blessed Virgin presented herself to Bernadette Soubirous during an apparition in Lourdes on March 25, 1858. The elegant monogram of the two letters A and M for "Ave Maria" completes the tympanum's decoration.
