Description

Children have fun discovering the Salève Cable Car! Through a fun, interactive activity that combines history, architecture, and mechanics, they’ll learn how the cable car works.
The children participate in three workshops: History Workshop: They reconstruct the major milestones in the history of the cable car using a timeline, photos, and clues. From climbing the Salève on donkeys to today’s cable car, they discover how access to the Salève has evolved over time. Architect Workshop: They examine the upper station, its geometric shapes, its volumes, and its concrete architecture. Using elements to observe and handle, they explore the work of architect Maurice Braillard before taking on the challenge of building their own model of the upper station using Kapla blocks. Mechanics Workshop: Using a diagram to complete, they identify the various components essential to the movement of the cabins and experiment firsthand with how the cable car works. A unique way to explore the Salève Cable Car and gain a deeper understanding of its history, architecture, and engineering.
