“Voyages”

By Wozdat, Keim, Lucky Lucien | 2020

This fresco at the railway station is an invitation to travel, with its colours, characters, movements and words based on the quotation from Lao Tzu: “A long journey always begins with a single step”. The 400 square metre mural is a blend of different worlds, each with its own individual touch. The fresco took more than 225 hours to complete.

“La rotonde, l’étoile ferroviaire”

By Loraine Motti | 2022

The graphic approach has been to retain the original architectural elements, namely the columns and doors: the fresco adapts and is structured around them. The artist proposes a symbolic and allegorical approach to Annemasse’s environment, strongly characterised by the green lane, a place dedicated to slow walks and a connection with nature. The background of the fresco evokes a mountainous horizon, with architectural references (roofs) and references to walking, water in its various forms, the sky and the hilly landscapes that surround Annemasse. Characters parade along this green route, which is more visible on the sides of the wall, leaving more room for the illustrative fresco.

“Hybridity”

By Koralie Carmen Flores | 2024

Hybridity is a concept used in various fields (biology, linguistics, culture, etc.) to describe the fusion and interaction of different influences to create something new and unique. In a cultural context, hybridity refers to the fusion of different cultural traditions, practices and influences to create a new culture. This can include music, cuisine, clothing, art, etc. Jazz, for example, is the result of cultural hybridity, combining elements of African, European and American music.

“VESTIGES DE L’AURORE”

By Ratur | 2023

This title evokes several elements. Vestiges: This word evokes what remains of a past, fragments or memories. It echoes the idea of broken sculpture, suggesting that, even in incompleteness, there is still beauty and a connection to what once was. Aurora: This refers to dawn or a new beginning, symbolising rebirth and light. In the context of the nymph rising from the foliage, it reinforces the idea of regeneration and hope. This powerful mural depicts a nymph whose face appears partially broken, like an ancient sculpture marked by time. Yet missing fragments are reborn through lush foliage that springs from the top of her face, symbolising the resilience of nature. Her features, though incomplete, exude a timeless majesty, making her a veritable icon. She embodies both fragility and strength, a transcendent mythical figure that evokes the way in which nature, despite its trials, always regains its rights and regenerates itself with indomitable beauty.

“Ivory Tower”

By Russ (Jordan Harang) | 2022

Inspired by the evolution of life, the work of Jordan Harang (Russ) bears witness to the passage of Time on matter and things. This surrealistic composition also questions our perception of the space in which we live. A veritable metaphysical quest, this fresco opens a door to imaginary and poetic territories, inviting us to travel and reflect.

“Hommage”

By Coco | 2023

Coco was a pupil at the Collège Michel Servet theatre, under the direction of Alfred Le Renard, a former drama teacher. Her drawing is a staging of the theatre, a play on space with the building, with a nod to Alfred Le Renard, her former drama teacher, and to her father, who always encouraged her in drawing.

“La fresque des cheminots”

By Cobalt | 2022

At the beginning of the 19th century, Annemasse was a small village with fewer than 1,000 inhabitants. With the construction and opening of the railway line, the town expanded rapidly to become the frontier urban area we know today. This fresco is a tribute to the railway workers, who worked behind the scenes and played a key role in the town’s development. The image features a dreamlike main character in the centre, dressed in blue, the identifying garb of the railway workers. Numerous allusions and symbols linked to this arduous and little-recognised work are integrated throughout the image: the scarf, typical of union workers of the time, the cap with a rail logo, the face in the shape of the railwaymen’s work lamps, the date on the lamp, 1880, the stage at which the state of the track was changed to public utility and the period of development of the railway infrastructure. In his hand, the railway worker is holding a sketch of a child’s drawing, a reference to the owner couple hosting the fresco and their child. The idea is to highlight the collective memory of the town and its inhabitants, using dreams and the dream as a starting point.

“Transect”

By Serval et Florian Eglin | 2022

A dreamlike fable in an incandescent fresco. Author and writer Florian Eglin has teamed up with his fellow painter Serval for the Fabulae Genavenses project: the fables of Greater Geneva, populating the region with their stories, tales and fables. Words combined with images, text on the wall. Improbable and powerful, like the flight of a flock of green flamingos. “It’s just before evening. There’s this infinitely brief minute. This interminable minute. It has the fragility of dreams that escape us in the morning.”

By Wozdat, Keim, Lucky Lucien | 2021

“Salle Floquet”

By Chloé Weinfeld | 2023

In this fresco, a female character moves through a setting where nature and the city coexist harmoniously. She is cycling or walking through the city, under a clear sky, past houses with their comforting glow and magical doors opening onto other horizons. The colour palette brings freshness, escape and cheerfulness. The city is filled with abstract and enigmatic motifs, like symbols and simplified coats of arms. The stylised columns and doors subtly evoke architecture that is both contemporary and historical. A new female figure blends into the landscape, and her hair turns into a bush on the next wall.

“Le Caldarium”

By Cité Création | 2008

In the heart of Annemasse, the remains of a Gallo-Roman spa complex were unearthed during a building programme. As a tribute to this discovery, the town of Annemasse and the company Océanis Promotion commissioned Cité Création to create a monumental fresco depicting the caldarium, the area of the thermal baths dedicated to hot baths. The fresco, centred on a recreation of the baths in soft, soothing colours, also incorporates two paintings with dolphin motifs, evoking ancient mosaics. This beautiful artistic ensemble is a vibrant tribute to the town’s Gallo-Roman past.

“Feuillages”

By Duo Hippolyte Hentgen | 2025

The Hippolyte Hentgen duo designed the new east facade of the Villa du Parc using a spray gun, but also using solid colours to create a vibrant, acidic mural in a geometric-pop atmosphere. A play of architectural symmetries adapted to the landscape context (majestic trees, neighbouring mountains).

“Aimée”

By Renée Levi | 2021

Aimée Stitelmann was the inspiration for Renée Levi’s exhibition at the Villa du Parc in 2021, as well as the work that can now be seen on the façade in response to the “Philippe” fresco on the other side of the park.

Did you know?

Street art is often considered a modern art form, but its roots go back to antiquity. The murals found at Pompeii could be seen as the first ‘tags’ in history. In the Monts du Genevois, this tradition continues, but with spray paint!
