“Enjoy life before you grow up”
Jean-Philippe is originally from the region. He spent his childhood in Bellegarde and for a long time, he lived in the Chablais region where his grandparents were from, with his wife and two children. Since he was a child, he has always expressed his creativity through graffiti. He followed his passion by studying applied arts in graphics and then web design. In 2008, he started working as a freelance artistic painter under the name “Wozdat”.
He kicked off his career with some large-scale projects all over France, including the renovation of a hotel in Paris and a collective artistic project in a car park in Val Thorens. Thanks to the opportunities and trust his clients put his way, he was able to polish up his graphic style. Just as talented with a paintbrush as a computer mouse, Jean-Philippe developed his skills as an artist and creative director. One day, Jean-Philippe aka Wozdat purchased a worksite container and drew on his partnerships with the creative association FBI in Annemasse to embark upon new projects. He put forward the idea of turning it into an art gallery in Ambilly and created AssoGlitch in 2017.
Jean-Philippe is currently the creative director of AssoGlitch and he supports talented painters and leads creative urban initiatives in the region. As part of an initiative to promote street art, AssoGlitch is working in partnership with town councils to identify walls to paint. When urban planning services validate the feasibility of the project in a given town, Jean-Philippe presents a selection of artist portfolios from the association’s contacts. The town and local residents together choose the painter to create the wall painting, often giving them free rein to express their style.
In his role as an artist, Jean-Philippe has had the opportunity to collaborate with other painters on iconic projects, including Annemasse bus station and Château Rouge. He has also worked on a number of projects alone, for clients such as Saint-Julien-en-Genevois hospital, where he gave patients the possibility to participate in designing a unique creation on the outer wall of the hospital building. Through his work and his creations, Jean-Philippe aka Wozdat passes on his open-mindedness. Even though tastes differ, street art is still often known for its monumental nature. The large-scale artworks catch the eye of passers-by who appreciate the quality of these creations. AssoGlitch is keeping up this momentum and recently created a new wall fresco at Lucinges school, while Jean-Philippe continues to keep his passion alive, that he sees as a means of freedom above all else.
