“Alone, we can climb high, but together we can go higher, staying roped to one another to reach new heights”
Ilan is from Brittany and has been climbing since he was a child. He started climbing on the rocks on the beaches of Finistère and then worked on improving his skills by joining a climbing club. Climbing then became a real passion for him. Sport had always been a big part of his life and he decided to go and study for a STAPS diploma. After enrolling on various climbing courses with a passionate instructor, he decided to make the switch and apply to be an instructor himself. Ilan is an adventurer at heart and he worked on his skills as a professional instructor with the UCPA group, an organisation whose values he shared.
From Les Contamines-Montjoies to Pralognan and the south of France, he works with numerous groups, both indoors and outdoors. From a hobby to a passionate career, he is always looking to push his limits and explore the peaks of Haute-Savoie. He has now been a climbing instructor for over a year at UCPA Vitam in Neydens, and this position includes searching for new climbing routes and leading seasonal and annual courses.
Ilan shares his passion for this activity with both physical and mental benefits, with the children and adults he trains. He is a good listener and a great teacher, identifying the difficulties and needs of each of his students to help them improve in the right conditions. Ilan is always looking to pass on values, and he is involved in UCPA Vitam’s Educational and Sports Programme. In an effort to improve services for visitors on a continuous basis, he focuses his work on the key aspects of this programme: the environment, accessibility, autonomy and sharing. To define the most appropriate approach to each service, Ilan organises training sessions for the teams all year round. This approach is already in place in the climbing area, in the way that instructors go about teaching the climbers. His challenge is now to apply this approach across the whole organisation.
Ilan thrives on a challenge, both in his professional and personal life, and every year he sets himself new goals. A great sportsman at heart, he explores hiking trails and climbs mountains all over France and the world. He is always looking for new experiences to push his sporting limits and is planning another trip to Chile, a country he is particularly fond of for the landscapes there.
