2Die Standseilbahn
Sie wurde 1907 eingeweiht und ihre bestand Funkssion in der Beförderung der Kurgäste von den großen Hotels auf den Anhöhen von Evian zu der Quelle, der Thermal-Trinkhalle und der Thermaleinrichtung (dem heutigen Palais Lumière).<br/>Diese elektrische Standseilbahn ohne Zahnstange wurde zwischen 1907 und 1913 in mehreren Abschnitten vom Lausanner Ingenieur Koller für eine Tochtergesellschaft der Société des eaux minérales gebaut. Sie beförderte die Gäste von den Kais (Hafen, Thermalbad, Casino) über die Buvette Cachat (Thermal-Trinkhalle) zu den großen Hotels (Splendide, Royal, Ermitage). Man nennt sie „die kleine Metro von Evian“, weil sie sechs Haltestellen bedient und die Wände ihrer Stationen mit abgeschrägten Steingutfliesen verkleidet sind. Auf der 750 m langen Strecke, 140 m davon unterirdisch, fahren zwei Wagen mit fünf Abteilen. Die 1969 stillgelegte Standseilbahn wurde im Sommer 2002 nach sechsjähriger Restaurierung wieder in Betrieb genommen. Sie gehört der Stadt Evian und steht unter Denkmalschutz. Die Standseilbahn ist ein seltenes Stück des europäischen Eisenbahnerbes und gehört zu den einzigen drei Überlebenden der denkmalgeschützten Standseilbahnen des 19. und 20. Jahrhunderts.
Die untere Station befindet sich in der rue du port, hinter dem Palais Lumière.
Die Bergstation befindet sich auf der Höhe der Grange au Lac.
Abfahrt: alle 20 Minuten von beiden Bahnhöfen.

An der oberen Station der Standseilbahn ist vom Ende Juni bis Mitte September ohne Unterbrechung von 10.30 bis 19.30 Uhr, außer bei Regen

Several centuries ago, religious people from neighbouring Switzerland settled here. The Abbey of Abondance spread beyond the borders of Savoy. All around, the village was built little by little. The Abbey of Abondance, the architectural jewel of the valley, contains fabulous artistic treasures. It has remained intact and has been listed as a Historic Monument since 1875. A visit to this place allows you to discover its church, cloister and conventual buildings.

In the heart of the valley, Saint Jean d’Aulps gave its name to the valley Haut Chablais valley: “valis de alpibus”, Aulps valley, meaning meadows.<br/>Like its abbey and the monks who lived there, the village was also the catalyst for surrounding settlements. Over time, these hamlets spread out both sides of the Dranse river, so successfully that the impression is one of a truly settled place. With the success of skiing, Saint Jean d’Aulps developed a ski resort with a distinct natural advantage that is part of the Portes du Soleil.
