Discover the Salève's most emblematic cave! Experience an outdoor sporting adventure to discover a little-known trail and an unfathomable underground world.
Location
Grotte d'Archamps is located in Haute Savoie, on the southern slopes of the Salève, near the Col de la Croisette. Just 20 minutes from Geneva and less than 1 hour from Annecy, it's ideally placed for sports enthusiasts in the Geneva region to discover caving.
Meeting point
Meet at the Blécheins parking lot in Archamps, above Les Pommerais.
Course of the outing
After packing up our gear at the parking lot, we walk up the mountain for 1h30 for a 400m hike, during which your guide explains the formation of the Salève and its particularities. Once we've reached the foot of the cliffs, we suit up from head to toe and embark on a 5-hour round-trip caving exploration that takes us to -65m below the surface.
The guide ensures safety throughout, while providing maximum autonomy. The obstacles to be overcome allow you to learn the tools of the speleologist and to push yourself to the limit, particularly during a compulsory narrow passage. Many concretions cross our path, which your guide will decipher to shed light on the history of the cave's formation.
At the end of our exploration, we have lunch to regain our strength before climbing back up the cave and descending to the parking lot.
Who is this outing for?
An athletic public capable of day-hiking on poorly maintained paths with steep, uneven sections.
Water and food
Bring a 1L bottle of plastic water and a packed lunch (sandwiches, seeds, dried fruit, energy bars), not rigid tupperware, for example. Avoid crumbs such as potato chips or dried cakes.
Digital equipment
You can take a phone, GoPro or compact camera with you underground, under your own responsibility. However, your instructor cannot be held responsible for any damage to or loss of your personal belongings.
