This lake is located in the crystalline massif of the Aiguilles Rouges, between Passy and Servoz. Accessible by foot only. Magnificent views of the Fiz mountain range. The lake and its island are nestled under the Pointe Noire de Pormenaz.

The relief is "moutonné", with hard, rounded granite rocks alternating with hollows: peat bogs and laouchets (small lakes) left by the glacier some 10,000 years ago. An impressive diversity of flora, including numerous rhododendrons in early summer.
