  • Road
Place de la Gare, 74100 Annemasse
Discover the Vuache and the surrounding area. A wild and authentic massif between countryside and orchards...

Depart Annemasse for Collonges-sous-Salève on the main road.

Follow the Salève mountain (towards Cruseilles) to its other end, at the Col du Mont Sion (21 km). There are several places to visit nearby: La Maison du Salève, Hameau du Père-Noël and Parc des Épouvantails (please check opening times beforehand).

Begin the descent towards Cercier. You'll pass the Ferme de Chosal (31km), an educational farm in a bucolic setting, organizing visits and events (ecocitizen trail, donkey rides, sale of farm produce...).

Drive through a number of small country villages to Chaumont (50 km), where you'll find yourself at the foot of the Vuache. Smaller than the Salève, the Vuache still rises to 1105 metres and offers numerous hiking trails of varying degrees of difficulty.

This trail runs alongside the Vuache and through orchards. Some farmers will be delighted to show you around their farms and let you taste their produce, including fruit, cheese, honey and wine.

Follow the road across the Rhône to Fort l'Écluse (66 km), a magnificent fortified military building overlooking the river.

For the return journey, retrace your steps to Vulbens, and head for Valleiry. At Valleiry (76 km), turn left towards the border (Douane de Chancy). You are now in Switzerland.

Pass through small Swiss villages and vineyards. Enter France via Soral customs (90 km). You arrive in Viry and then head for Saint-Julien-en-Genevois.

You can return to Annemasse via the main road, passing through Collonges-sous-Salève.
